On the road, er water, again! Today we sadly packed up and said reluctant goodbyes to Naxos. We are starting to get really good at squeezing our belongings back in the suitcases and preparing to head to the next destination.
Highlights from Day 12
- Today was the first time we ate at the same restaurant twice…we couldn’t say no to take two of crepes.
- We found ourselves once again at the port with hundreds of our best friends in the heat waiting for our ferry to arrive. As soon as we boarded, while we were still in the ship’s underbelly, the ferry pulled out of port. These ferries don’t mess around.
- So, we were supposed to be in the regular seats this time. That lasted about 6 minutes before we upgraded to the platinum area where we had more space, reclining abilities, a table, and food. Apparently vacation us (Michael) is high maintenance. Regardless, our 4 hour trip was very comfy.

- Our landing in Piraeus was a bit overwhelming. For starters, it was 95 degrees out and rush hour. We clumsily made our way to the train station, trying several different tracks before finding our route to our new apartment home (above a restaurant and right next to the Acropolis).
- The highlight for Liam is he gets his own room, the only time that is true for the entire 3 week vacation. Liam actually picked this Airbnb as well as the one in Naxos.

- So, our first walk through Athens was a bit rough. We found ourselves in neighborhoods with lots of graffiti and trash. It reminded us of the less than desirable parts of NYC. This along with the mass of people kept us in an overwhelmed state. The crowded train, however, did remind us of home.
- Luckily, some incredible vegan souvlaki to set us back on course. Truthfully, one of the best meals so far.

- We ended the night with some incredible lokma covered in chocolate and prepped to step into ancient Athens in the morning.
