Day 7 Helsinki to Stockholm

Today we said goodbye to Finland and hello again to Sweden. Helsinki felt like a mini vacation in the middle of vacation, so returning to Stockholm oddly felt like a flight home.

Highlights of Day 7

  • We had breakfast in the hotel today. It’s was a buffet so we went in with a very American mindset. Boy were we wrong. The amount and quality of food was beyond. Typically in the US, the vegan options are limited to oatmeal and a bagel. Peep these plates below! We are talking chia seed pudding, hearty vegan pancakes, toast with orange marmalade, and ratatouille!
  • We sat and drank tea at Senate Square and enjoyed people watching. We are getting very good and just sitting and soaking everything up without needing to go somewhere or accomplish something (a lesson our normal selves needs to learn).

  • We then walked through Market Square’s farmers market and got some souvenirs and fresh cherries.
  • We followed it up with a goodbye Helsinki lunch by the water. Not pictured was Finnish rapper, Cledos, sound checking on the Allas stage below to an audience of no one. Never a dull moment.
  • We took the train to the airport, and after a 45 minute flight with a very opinionated newborn, we were back in Stockholm.
  • Oh, it must be noted that Helsinki’s airport had a kind, talking robot driving around to collect trash and give you recommendations on where to snack.
  • Our hotel for the next 2 nights is at the airport, so we kept a low key night to catch up on some laundry before heading to Greece. Was it more successful this time you wonder? Ish. Apparently the person who used the machine before us was a smoker (lots of smoking in public spaces in both Sweden and Finland). Now by the smell of us, so were we.

How was Liam’s day, you might be wondering? He texted us in the morning to report that the ice at the rink had MELTED! That’s right, he’s at hockey camp with no ice. I’m sure he will fill us all in the details later.
