Day 5 Helsinki

For the past few years, Liam has been going to sleep away hockey camp in Minnesota. During this time, Michael and I have found ourselves at quaint tiny houses in the middle of no where. This year, we head to Helsinki, Finland instead!

This trip is inspired by Amber’s heritage! Amber’s great-grandparents on her mom’s side were Finnish. That makes her 1/4 Finnish. We couldn’t be this close and not visit!

Highlights from Day 5

-Before leaving Stockholm, we ate at the cutest brunch spot. I know breakfast is a normal meal for the rest of you to eat out, but we have the hardest time finding good vegan breakfast in the states. So, it must be documented.

Goodbye view from our Stockholm hotel.
  • Stockholm airport is beyond. It is, of course, run brilliantly and has that clean-line, Swedish aesthetic. You forget you’re in an airport. Most interestingly, we never showed our ID anywhere…just boarding pass. Fingers crossed you didn’t drop it! Also everything must stay in your bag rather than taking it all out (not to mention shoes stay on) through security.
  • Norwegian Airline seats make Spirit Airline seats feel like a cushy recliner. Pretty sure we were sitting on fabric covered cardboard.
The archipelago view from the plane.

-Hei from Finland! We dropped our stuff at just the most gorgeous hotel and set off to site seeing. No time to waste!

I mean…peep that park view.

-What’s the vibe of Helsinki like? We’ve decided that Helsinki is like if Sweden and Russia had a punk rock kid. Just a little more grungy edge to it. We of course found the perfect restaurant to jump into the vibe.

We went with, “Yes, we’d like one of everything, please.”

  • Most things were closed, so we took in the city from great heights on the SkyWheel. Good way to get our bearings. It looks early, but this was 9 at night!
  • We found this gorgeous church with a hill in front that the locals were sitting on to watch the sunset. So, we joined them! This is the Uspenski Cathedral.

-We ended the night walking through Senate Square by the Helsinki Cathedral. Sadly that are doing construction on it.
